Our New Specialty Beer, ‘Saison’ is Now on Tap, 1st November 2016
ABV / 6.2% .IBU / 32
Saisons are essentially a Belgian Pale Ale, originating from Wallonia, a French-speaking region of Belgium, and are classified as a ‘farmhouse’ ale. Saisons were originally a lower alcohol beer served to farm workers during summer as a quenching refresher. Over the years, the ABV (alcohol %) has progressively increased such that modern Saisons can typically approach 7% ABV. Generally, Saisons are highly carbonated (spritzy), fruity and quite spicy.
Our Monk Saison is hazy cloudy gold in colour; the nose reveals white stone fruits with a rather beguiling hint of lavender, with distinctive and quite unique spicy/fruity yeast notes. Sweet malt with hints of honeysuckle and jasmine wash over the palate, yet finishing dry with just a hint of earth and alcohol warmth.
